About

Jorge Appiah is a Technopreneur and Africa Tech-Policy Expert with a background in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (BSc), Business Administration (MBA), and Renewable energy (MSc).

He is the CEO/Co-founder of SolarTaxi Ghana which is championing affordable clean transportation to facilitate the free movement of Africans through the local assembling and manufacturing of electric vehicles.

To accelerate Africa’s transition to eco-friendly, affordable transport, SolarTaxi, an e-mobility company is providing locally assembled electric vehicles, focusing on building “an integrated ecosystem of mobility services,” including digital ride-hailing and E-commerce platforms.

SolarTaxi is helping make intra-city movements easy, affordable, and reliable using locally assembled electric-powered vehicles and facilitating e-commerce/ride-hailing through integration with digital platforms. 

Over the past 2 years, SolarTaxi has deployed 545 Electric vehicles, and about 1,470,000 km traveled with a total EV Carbon equivalent saving of 1,999,000 metric tons of Co2 emissions. In Employment, 360 direct employments created since 2020 with women being 55% of total full-time staff.

Women-led engineering: The only automobile company in the world with more than 50% of the engineering team being women.  90% of our engineering team members are women.

Jorge has over 12 years’ of experience in technology development, innovation process management, and managing technology-entrepreneurship communities. He served as a consultant in various capacities in e-governance, digital skills development and digital entrepreneurship for the Government of Ghana and International development agencies.
